Understanding Apiary Forecast trend windows
What the trend windows show
Beekeeping is rarely about one perfect reading. A single forecast can tell you what conditions look like today, but it can’t always show whether things are improving, worsening or just wobbling around.
That is why Apiary Forecast now includes trend windows. A new addition for all members at no extra cost.
The trend view looks at recent stored Apiary Forecast readings for your saved apiary and compares how key conditions have moved across the selected period. Depending on the view and how long you’ve had the saved apiary, you can look at ranges such as the last 7, 14 or 30 days.
In plain English, it helps answer questions like:
Are conditions improving, or has the colony been under pressure for several days?
Is forage support rising or falling?
Are inspection opportunities getting better, or are poor weather windows dragging on?
Is the current outlook a one-day blip, or part of a wider pattern?
Why this matters to beekeepers
A cool, wet afternoon mightn’t matter much if it sits inside a warm, settled week. But as we all know,ย several poor flying days in a row can affect colony mood, stores pressure and the chance of getting sensible inspection windows.
The trend windows are designed to give you that wider view.
What โmovement across the selected rangeโ means
When Apiary Forecast shows movement, it compares values within the selected trend window.
So if you choose a 7-day trend, the movement is based on the available readings in that selected 7-day period. If you choose a longer range, the comparison widens.
That keeps the trend relevant. It is not trying to tell you what has changed since the beginning of time.ย It’s showing what has changed across the period you are looking at.
How to use it
A beekeeper might use it to decide whether to:
- prepare for a possible inspection opportunity
- delay opening a colony because conditions remain marginal
- keep an eye on stores if forage access has been poor
- understand whether a good-looking day is part of a real improvement
- spot a run of unsettled weather before it becomes a practical issue
Anyway, I hope it helps. It’s another string to the beekeepers bow to help support your decisions.
